Oh nuclear war is bad and there's no time to react and we just had you watch the same scenario from a few different perspectives for like 90 minutes and we are so emotionally laden with our burden that we are not gonna resolve it for you. (Even though this is a movie.)
We are so empathetic to what such a situation would entail. So the ambiguous ending shows we are intelligent, and this is a sophisticated film.
