The movie is not going to win awards but if your expectations are to watch a movie for the fun of it then I recommended on a ticket discounted cost day and not feel bad about.
I feel like movie while bases itself on a monster I think goes a little more into it with addition of the father being a therapist and his children seeing their own for the unresolved issues of their lives - mainly grief.
*spoilers*
The family looses a mother an experience grief. As does a strange man that visits them one day losing his children because of a "boogyman" and this monster is physical and is real. They have to now fight to survive.
In my opinion Boogyman acts as the fear and dark looming feeling we all have watching us. It uses the tactics to manipulate and put fear in its "prey" it may be a silly spooky movie but I think people miss the other parts of the story and it's other focus of therapy and mental health when going through something painful.
Boogyman preys on the vulnerable and the most vulnerable; people who suffer though fear of the dark but is not afraid to use your mental fears on its subject.
