Ok so there is an element of bias in this review, granted.
Is there anything Mastodon creates that isn't exhilarating? The complexity, the layers, the nuances, the intricacy of this album is jaw dropping. Kelliher and Hines are at the top of their game, and their riffs and double guitar attack are simply astonishing. Bran Taylor's drumming is like always, as frenetic and powerful as ever, and Troy's vocals and bass playing round out what is possibly the most unique and originally prog metal band of all time. Ever song slays, and will leave the listener wondering how a masterpiece like this could have ever been dreamt up by mere mortals. Music does not get more important than this. Thank you Mastodon.
