The Virgin Suicides (1999) In an ordinary suburban house, on a lovely tree-lined street, in the middle of 1970s America, lived the five beautiful, dreamy Lisbon sisters, whose doomed fates indelibly marked the neighborhood boys who to this day continue to obsess over them. A story of love and repression, fantasy and terror, sex and death, memory and longing. It is at its core a mystery story: a heart-rending investigation into the impenetrable, life-altering secrets of American adolescence.
Oh, how I love this film. So very much. I have watched this film countless times and can’t get enough. Sofia Coppola really did this Book to Film such great justice. Incredible acting with such a mysterious and heartbreaking story following these girls’ tragic lives. Something that remains to be unseen is why they did it and this is what makes this film so good. This “perfect” family isn’t so perfect after all. I can never get enough of this fantastic movie and as depressing as it is, It remains to be my 2nd favorite film of all time. I love the mystery aspect and the drama. The drama of this film is such an incredible thing and the soundtrack of the 70s and the style were all so perfect. Certainly a film I must recommend to everyone who loves drama films or even mysteries because this for sure matches those categories. It’s a very remarkable Rom-dram mystery flick. One I see myself watching even more times than what I had. I am forever going to give The Virgin Suicides a 5.5/5 stars. It is always a masterpiece with each watch and I admire it even more with each viewing.
