I wish I could get back those two hours and 15 minutes of my life. Although the cinematography is beautiful, and there are some heart-wrenching moments and a few laughs- most notably with the mother's driving, the first hour and a half was incredibly boring. My boyfriend fell asleep within the first 20 minutes after I begged him to watch it because the critical reviews were amazing. I kept waiting for it to get better because of the 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 reviews given by the critics. Finally, after about a hour and a half there were a few moments that were very powerful and some that were even tear-jerking. Not knowing much about Mexican turmoil during that time, I can't speak to his accuracy, but it does depict a very tough time they lived in, however the upper- middle-class family depicted was mostly shielded from that. The ending is a nice story about a mother's love for her children and how they embrace the housekeeper as family. I'm glad I didn't see it in the movie theater and waste my money. I'd say watch it if you're an insomniac and need to fall asleep.
