This reveiw may be unfair b/c admittedly I have never liked any entries to the Planet of the Apes franchise. The trailer for this latest entry (which I've now seen 3x in a theater) is enough to make me stay away once again, and normally I love most films. The PotA CGI looks good here from the trailer but we've seen all the Avatar-type beautiful worlds by this point (and nothing in the new PotA trailer looks that good) --- and that simply is not enough for the price and time cost of a theater ticket.
Frankly the business models for modern studios and streaming services are churning out expensive-to-make films like PotA that are subject to complex conglomerate financial/tax accounting agendas in this new world of blended home/theater content --- apparently profitable for them but not very satisfying for audiences. (I've read the other reviews here, and agree in principle w/ all the negative ones.)
I'll go see the Civil War film or The Fall Guy again --- both good films for different reasons --- in a theater this weekend before PotA. CW had great acting and sound design plus a thought-provoking premise. TFG was a laugh fest and overall good time like an old-school movie with stars and good production values set in interesting places. Or if The Bikeriders film was already out in theaters (not releasing until 6-21-24) I'd go see that, but not PofA. Sorry. Not going to vote at the movies against my and the public's best film-viewing interests.
