Watching the premiere of the much awaited #TheBengalfiles literally left us on an emotional roller coaster. An experience that is brutally true and shocking. It presents history in its most unvarnished and truly factual form, delivering a powerful and hard-hitting narrative that stares us down with raw honesty.
A lot of work and research seems to have gone into the movie. Most of the scenes which move around 1946-47 are sometimes so raw and shocking that the viewer feels the pain, the shame and brutality, that people experienced in Kolkata and Noakhali. The genocide which took place over three days when the police force were ordered to look away. Where Muslim mobs overseen by Muslim Leagueโs Suhrwardy created mayhem in Calcutta, targeting Hindus.
All the actors excelled, but it was the hero, Shiva Pandit who walks away with all the accolades, brilliant performance indeed. Symbolically Pallaviโs role as #MaBharati , the soul and voice of the patriotic Indian is also done extremely well.
The director has clearly implied that nothing has changed since partition, for instance the #DelhiRiots was a repeat of what happened in Calcutta and Noakhalli. The same kind of politics where vote bank was the important focus, where political parties woo the mafia and Muslim parties to destroy and spread hatred among Hindus and Muslims in India.
The film makes a compelling commentary that nothing has really changed and only true leaders can free people from these kind of traumatic experiences. Well done indeed Vivek Agnihotri and his complete team, more people need to see this movie and learn the truth. A true eye-opener!
This is what Mamata Banerjee is scared of and the reason why she is blocking the movie in West Bengal..
