It is the most famous chess problem text book with Sam's life described by Alain White from his birth to death. Many funny anecdotes are told about Sam and all his puzzles many of which were not chess. The 14/15 puzzle being very popular and still made today in a stainless steel form. The book is only half complete and then White updates Sam's 'Chess Strategy' book from the early 1880's and so the book entertains and instructs.
White himself was more famous than Sam as he produced over 50 books on chess problems from the early 1900's to the end of WW2. They are collector's items today
I have the Dover version and had to repair it recently due to the massive use over 50 years..It's OK now.
