The nurse and I were given tickets for Pretty Woman the Musical. We enjoyed the Savoy Grill and valet parking before wondering if the musical could get any where near the iconic film. We had read the negative reviews so expectation low. The impact being a not full theatre on a Saturday evening. I do have family member who is a theatre director so that may mean bias knowing how much work goes into a show like this. One star reviews are frankly not reasonable unless something very odd happened on that night. The story is followed well and certain characters particularly effective such as Happy Man (theatre manager) and the BellBoy etc. The energy is great, I thought the original music more than acceptable and well staged and performed. All the ensemble deserved their West End Status. The staging is simple but effective. I personally could not fault the leads in Vivienne and Edward, they did what the director expected. These are two oddball personalities and in a way the stage personna probably more realistic than the film but you can’t in my view fairly compare two of the worlds film greats on film. The audience loved the show, we thoroughly enjoyed. Not a deep philosophical treatise but entertainment. No overt sex, nakedness and only one swear word. I suggest judge for yourselves.
