“Mr. & Mrs. Smith” is entertaining, beautiful, suspenseful, and funny. Really well done. Bravo, Donald and Maya. The critical reviews have some common themes - they mistakenly compare this iteration to the previous productions and they take issue, unfairly, with a lack of chemistry between the stars (some even going so far as to critique the interracial pairing…in 2024). This is not a remake, it’s a twist on a theme. A far more creative twist, which is neither predictable nor formulaic. How refreshing! Moreover, the lead characters are very different; intentionally written to be incompatible. If they were dripping in chemistry, the random pairing and need to be adversarial would not have been believable. You can’t have it both ways. And, I prefer the deeply flawed and imperfect characters finding a way to relate professionally and romantically. It creates tension and intrigue. We loved it, we binged it, and we recommend it.
