In 1982, the year after Das Boot was released, the horrors of war came to Lebanon. Out of that war came the second of my two 'best war movies ever made', 'Lebanon' by director Samuel Maoz. Das Boot and Lebanon both look at the condition of war and man from the inside of the experience outwards and both immerse the viewer, almost trapping us on the reality of being in a submarine or a tank. Both are thrilling and gripping and most of all powerful anti-war films.
