This is one of, if not the best RPG game of all time. As a player mostly into western RPGs I can say that there is not a game that does the classic fantasy role play better.
BG3 succeeds in a way that many other games in the genre do not. The developers understand quality over quantity. Every encounter, Every boss and most piece of equipment comes with a unique use case or specific interaction that makes them memorable on each play through.
There was also careful planing when it came to what features from the D&D table top game to exclude or modify to make the BG3 more enjoyable.
Graphics: This game is stunning. When it first released out of early access the game looked great on my mid to high end laptop. As the game was updated it also looked and ran better and better on lower end pcs as well.
Exploration: The game does a fantastic job of making exploration worthwhile. Although the game isnโt as expansive as something like Skyrim, BG3 makes great use of the space that they have included to hides all sorts of secrets ranging from unique gear to hidden quests or even whole environments.
Combat: While I have played other turn based games like pathfinder kingmaker, BG3โs combat did take some time to get used to. That is not an issue with the games design but more-so with the lack of content presented in other games. Every combat encounter has unique environmental elements that can be interacted with to turn the tides of battle. Especially if you have scouted out combat zones beforehand. There also so many combinations of gear effects and character abilities that allow for many interesting combat play-styles.
Story and Characters: The story is a classic fantasy epic that involves many different factions and characters that ultimately culminates into an all out war. Each act involves more characters more self contained stories and ends with a pretty serious boss fight or fights. Most of which have amazing cutscenes to go with them. Of all of the characters you find only some are recruitable but all of them have a background and their own stories. Many of these characters even come back at other points in the story. All of the recruitable characters have their own unique personalities that shine through as you experience the story events with them.
Glitches or bugs: While playing single player after the full release I have encountered no issues at least non as bad as I have seen in games like Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Starfield, Pathfinder kingmaker, or Dragons Dogma 2 to name a few. That being said I have seen other low star reviews reference the same issue that doorways have been a problem for them. You can just move the camera. That really hasnโt been an issue for me.
What it comes down to is that BG3 is the best game its genre because they get what makes a game fun to play. Less useless rehashed procedural generated filler junk for a oversized empty open world and more hand crafted interesting deep and interactive gameplay systems items and characters.
