This is an incredible little book. You can read it in less than half an hour as it is just 74 pages of a story of the love between a human and her animals, particularly, a cat named Boris. I read it years ago when an ex girlfriend gave it to me as a way to mark our final separation. She knew that I had my own Boris, a beautiful and very loving Maine Coon named Kitty, whom I had found hiding under a bush behind my house in a cold November rain. Kitty lived with me for 18 years and my heart broke when he left me in death and it is still broken to this day. I have had other cats since then - all strays - but just as there will never be another Boris, there will never be another Kitty. My heart breaks again when I read about Boris, the great and noble friend of this wonderful woman, Cynthia Rylant. I wish I could be fortunate enough to know her, to spend a few hours with her sharing Cat Tales and whatever other wondrous stories we could come up with. Boris makes me cry, so much so that I hesitated to even pick it up from the shelf where I found it after several years as I worked to pack and move myself from where I am now. I did not want to read it but I did anyway because it is truly a book about love and who doesn't need to learn about love? If there is someone in your life that you love, you might want to buy them this book. It is great for children or adults. It is pure and simple and uncomplicated and will make you as happy as a person can be - when you are feeling sad and in need of a moment with an old friend who just had to go away. Love somebody. Buy this book and share it with them.
