Well the novel did not live up to the hype it created. If you just read for fun and are not in the “book critic mindset” you’ll actually like the book. After reading “It ends with us”, I had no hope for this one, but surprisingly I liked it. This book seemed like an entirely different voice. The writing is mature (not focusing entirely on romantic relationships), and the character development is shown along the story.
Spoiler:
Josh’s character was an interesting addition and to be honest I was more interested in their story rather than Lily and Atlas’. Although the outcome was obvious, but I like the way Colleen Hoover took it slow and the book didn’t focus wholly on Lily and Atlas’ long lost love story. The use of the diary entries and letters to each other were a smart addition, even if they did drag on a little taking away from the storyline. There's a lot of unnecessary content that we already knew.
Overall it’s was overhyped, but it’s a light read so if you want to enjoy reading it, keep your expectations not too high.
