We couldn’t figure out whether Marlowe was badly written by a former English major (lots of literary references), or deliberately badly written like the “hard-boiled” detective movies of the 40s and 50s. Either way, the dialogue is stilted and the scenes have a static quality. Despite a good cast (who doesn’t like Liam Nelson?), this is a movie to avoid unless you like bad B movies or homages to bad B movies.
