Really gripping story from front to back. Having seen Jack Hawkins in the film with the same title I was interested to see how faithful the film was to the book. In short, the film missed a lot of drama and subtle nuances in the book, with many horrific passages sanitised out of the film. I recommend you read the book first, then watch the film. They make a complementary package.
