I grew up with Ash and Pikachu and watched every single Pokemon Movie and episode to date and I honestly really like Pokemon Horizons. Sure, I do miss Team Rocket and the comedy and snarky remarks but this is something new and the storyline is intriguing. This feels like a proper anime with an ongoing storyline. If you miss a bunch of episodes of it and then try to hop into the middle then you are going to miss a lot of what is happening, whereas when it was Ash you could practically start anywhere you wanted in the series in any season and not miss anything of super importance. There were only a couple that had major story arcs and even then they didn't last long. This has an in-depth ongoing story - Who is Lucis and what happened to him and his powerful team of Pokemon? Why is Gibeon so interested in Terapagos and what history does he have with Liko's grandmother? And a crystallized shiny Rayquaza is driving the plot forward! Too many people are stuck in the past and their minds are closed off to anything new. This series is NOT that bad. They say it's bad because they miss the old times. You can miss the old times and still have an open mind. Also, Pokemon was created for kids, not crying opinionated adults who can't just relax and enjoy something without critiquing the hell out of it. I'm on episode 37 of this series already and am invested. Granted I will re-watch it in the dubbed version later but for now, I'm sticking with Japanese with English subs so I can stay on top of the story. And for the record - Cap and Friede are one strong pair. This isn't the same Pikachu and that is a good thing - he's not supposed to be the same. And I love their origin story.
