I'm a huge fan of the 28 franchise and waited a long time for this.
Just so you know where I am, I'll give the first film a 9.25, second film a 9. they are definitive zombie films for me, both in my top 10.
This I will give an 8. Its very very different and from the start, to the point where its basically a new film. Its not horrible, and you should see if it you're a fan, but its so far from the original two, its barely a 3rd installment. But obviously, the name is there.
If you compare the invasion of the farm house in the second film it was a fantastic. They started with a not dissimilar nod in that direction in this film and straight away it felt so anameic, the kills and the presence of the zombies wasn't there, and they've carried on that awful effect from train spotting 2 where they pause the camera are certain impact angles which looks very amateurish, almost like its trying to be snatch, but not as good, and this effect is used a lot for impact kills.
There is some nice stuff in the film, and quite touching aswell.
I also congratulate them for not being woke and stuffing it full of messages. I did look and expect them, but I don't rolling my eyes up at anything. Ralph Fiennes was a nice edition, it was bugging me all film who it was as he was covered in iodine, but when I saw the credits it was obvious, as way mr murphy as the zombie, which was a nice touch.
The zombies are more like, an evolved form of Niedenthal's than zombies as you know it. The zombies have started to breed and produced their own offspring.
And due to the conditions of the world and it being set on a small island, they very much go back in time and it almost like another time zone.
I'm not going to say I am disappointed, I think they wanted to do something different and this was little too different, and it was very Scottish.
Apparently this is the start of a new trilogy so it will be interesting, but the ending was so weird, its really hard to justify why they did that.
Wss there jimmy Saville references in there too?
Yeah, I'm rambling a bit, now but I think its a decent film, but if you look at my marking of a 9.25/9 and an 8, I think these films worked better in an urban environment.
