Moderately entertaining but mostly disappointing.
SPOILERS AHEAD!
I guess I expected much more from this film. The premise was very interesting... Basically an animal in the sky that eats people and poops out all their indigestible items onto a ranch in the middle of nowhere with such force I might add that kills a man by driving a nickel into his head. It makes me recall Tremors but in the sky.... Sky Tremors if you will.
The creature itself was fascinating but Peele could have done so much more with it. Like making more of the screaming people as they are slowly digested inside the creature as it flies around the ranch.
Also the plot holes were gaping.... The horses seemed pretty calm with a flying predator hunting them, how many horses got eaten? None? Oh wait, there was that plastic one with the string of banners.
Why was so much time spent on the traumatic experience of the grown up child actor when he barely had 3 scenes before he was eaten? So much more could have happened there! He could have been the protagonist! Can you imagine him running around town trying to get people to believe an alien in eating people? Have the horse ranch people his co-protagonists.
And what of the actual protagonists? Emerald was great but OJ was flat. So much more could have been done with his relationship with his father and the affect his death had on him.
Angel was an ok character but what was up with the weird director and his even weirder death wish?
And what about the motorcycle guy with the mirrored helmet? I was expecting more from that because of that early scene where the horse was spooked by that mirrored bulb on the film set. But again for-shadowing that went nowhere. This movie had such potential but it was wasted on paper thin characters and side plots that went nowhere. And I really wanted to like this movie!
