As both an avid young film maker and film lover growing up in the 1960's two directors captured my imagination: Stanley Kubrick...and Stan Laurel. Very few people nowadays can understand that Stan was on a par with Charles Chaplin and Buster Keaton not only as an actor, writer and producer but that he invented many new techniques in film editing and sound effects that are now a part of standard cinema.
So it was with several fingers crossed that I heard of this intimate and tender biopic examining two masters near the end of their careers struggling how to finish the last act. I am pleased to report this film delivers not only a tribute to their lasting friendship and film legacy but allows to see how two very different comedic talents honed craft work that - almost a century later - still is capable of evoking peals of laughter.
I hope those watching this wonderful viewpoint will further acquaint audiences with 'the boys' works, many now available on You Tube or in newly minted collections on DVD.
