Avatar the Last Airbender on Netflix gets a solid 9/10 rating from me. As a lifelong fan of the original series, it exceeded all my expectations. Definitely worth the hype and years of waiting💯
1. I loved that they added the Airbender Genocide on the begining of the show. That was a brutally brilliant decision. Seeing the Air Nomads fighting for survival and knowing that they will all get wiped out anyway left me in an emotional wreck. I would never fully recover in this lifetime.
2. Kyoshi lecturing Aang about his duties and responsibilities as the Avatar was another great scene. She was scaring my boy Aang and I bet he was trembling when she started shouting in his face warning him never to run away again.
3. The escape at Pohuai Stronghold using the bamboo stilts was iconic. It was a difficult scene in the animated series and I didn't expect they would be able to pull it off in this adaptation
4. I liked that the relationship of Zoku and his crew were highlighted this time. I'm glad they included how the crew finally realized that the only reason they are still alive is because of his sacrifice. Got goosebumps when he returned to his ship, and the crew was there waiting for him.
5. The "Katara vs. Pakku" showdown was beautifully made. I was awe-struck the whole time. The fighting scenes literally felt like they were taken straight from the animated series and made real.
6. Katara did an incredible job in the "Siege of the North". I was bawling my eyes out when she showed up with all the women waterbenders to help fight in the war as well. I was on the floor by the time the apprentice called her Master Katara.
7. Other scenes that are noteworthy in this series: the iconic Cabbage Man, the Tunnel Song and the interaction with the other Avatars.
If you are skeptical about watching the show because of reviews you are seeing online, believe me when I say that you are clearly missing out.
I still can't believe how people are setting a lot of unbelievable expectations for shows or movies these days. Nobody can enjoy any show anymore because you have issues with the casting or costumes or visual effects or the storyline. Literally everything. I understand you have your standards or whatsoever, but come on people, just let other people enjoy the show.
I had so much fun and I loved the show. And to answer your question - No, I don't need an exact remake because I understand that this is an adaptation. I already watched the original 30+ times and it would have probably bored me.
In my opinion, they did pretty amazing on the storyline. It was totally understandable that they had to mix it up a little and combine a few of them together. On the brighter side, we get new moments like the genocide scene, the 41st battalion backstory and interactions with other Avatars.
WE EVEN GOT AVATAR KYOSHI RAMPAGING IN THE AVATAR MODE. What's not to like?
As the BIGGEST FAN of the animated show, it's perfect and you can't tell me otherwise.
