Personally I enjoyed it. Didn't take it too seriously - a bit like a dodgy romance novel full of sex and love and war.
Slight nod to class inequality( very slight) and it caught the vibe of when it was set in the 1930s/40s.
Felt a bit like an old black and white movie with pointed scripts.
Watch it on a rainy afternoon with tea or wine.
