This movie prides itself on symbolism and ambience, making it a very well done work of art. This movie rekindled my interest in the horror genre, because most modern horror movies don't have โit,โ or are just plain not good.
The acting is superb, practical effects are second-to-none, and the elements of horror are brilliant. It does start slow admittedly but itโs a slow buildup that is definitely worth the domino effect of disaster for the family. However, the ending was strange because:
(MASSIVE SPOILER WARNING)
It seemed out of place to verbally reveal that Charlie had resurrected into her brother. I think what wouldโve worked better was for Charlie to enter the treehouse, see the monument, headless women, and the participants before cutting to the credits. The reaction from Charlieโs face would have been just fine. Explaining the significance of the sacrifices, as well as what weโve already assumed has taken place (the final possession) made the movie seem less intelligent.
Other than that, definitely recommend!
