Food addiction is like any other addiction.
i think gastric surgery by itself is not the answer- it is a bandaid over a massive symptom caused by underlying issues... though we Americans just looooove to watch the misery of others.
As with any other addiction, especially with food since you cannot "Just say no!" 😂 - as with alcohol or doctor prescribed SSNRIs or meth or cigarettes. You have to eat! and nourish your body- but you also must address the underlying causes that drove you to comfort-eat in the first place.
Every episode i see the people talk of trauma and issues in their lives that drove them to the Symptom of overeating and poor food choices. Dr. N. gives no support system, aftercare, and one therapy session is thrown in as a last resort like that will magically address a lifetime of hurt in 50 minutes. He is harsh with his patients and i think that they are- no pun intended AT ALL- literally cash cows and circus freaks for him and us. This is why the recidivism rate is in the 90th percentile.
i know coddling kills... but just treating symptoms without time to make a holistic change in life, a support system, and battling demons that drive people to this food addiction over the years is essential.
