I’m halfway through the second season and I have to say, the show has definitely lost steam. To pivot from the conspiracy behind the capital bombing was a huge mistake! They should’ve kept the Vice President alive but only hint that he’s got something up his sleeve. A shadow government should’ve been introduced, similar to the Syndicate group on X-Files, that needs certain things to happen to serve their cause. The backdrop could’ve been of this mysterious group controlling the narrative and pulling strings throughout history but doesn’t want to become exposed, so when Tom ends up being the designated survivor, they go along with it until it threatens their cause. The main problem is the amount of episodes. A show like this needs no more than 12 episodes and should’ve been on FOX. Once the show started going deeper into the supporting characters lives and the day to day of being President, it became a snooze fest. I’ll keep watching just to finish the series, but it will be tough!

Loved season 1. Season 2 was a bit of a mixed bag. It definitely experienced several moments of acceleration and moving at a snail’s pace. Victor and Benji were literally all over one another, which is great, but a bit cringe and u realistic at times. I felt that Raheem being a potential love interest for Victor was odd and only served the purpose of plot device. Benji definitely needed to apologize to Isabel, as he was flat out disrespectful, for having sex with Victor, in HER house! Benji understood the risks of dating someone who isn’t out or lacked the experience, so his cheeky comments—followed up by apologies—were adding fuel to the fire. I was shocked by how there was barely any friction between Victor and Mia. In fact, the gang couldn’t wait to hook up at Benji’s cabin. All was forgiven. I feel that Felix may be experiencing some forms of mental issues as well, as he cuts off Lake quickly and chooses Pilar, who simply left a pack of Twizzlers in his jacket. He just seems very impulsive and when someone states the obvious, only then does he see the light. The cliffhanger was meh for me, as I didn’t care for Benji that much, as Raheem seems better suited as Pilar’s bestie than Victor’s potential new love. I appreciate the show focusing on parents coming together to accept their child coming out, and it touched on how there are different kinds of gay people instead of feminine or “butch queens”. Hopefully season 3 won’t be a Victor-Benji-Raheem love triangle. It’s not that deep to show that the entire season. Resolve it in the first couple episodes and move on. Maybe show Victor acting out more or exploring his sexuality with different partners. Benji and Raheem can be his two main guys but maybe Victor isn’t ready to commit to either, and just wants to grow more as a person.

This movie should have been better. The talent is really good but the writing completely failed it. The supposed plot twists in movies don’t excuse lazy storytelling, but to each their own. Here, it does the movie a complete disservice as it just makes it even worse. The daughter has issues and needs some serious help. She’s fifteen but acts more like a five year old. The mom brushes off the dad’s concern of the kid cutting herself, as it’s apparently been going on since he left. Mireille Enos from “The Killing” and “Hanna” is one of my favorite actresses, but wasn’t given much to work with here. Peter Sarsgaard seems to be on the verge of tears in every single shot. I just feel that more could’ve been drawn out of the parents, other than the natural instinct to protect their child. All the beauty shots, cinematography and silence in the film could’ve explored their personalities more. This was a pretty dumb and elaborate lie to go along with. I think any teenager who would’ve seen their parent hysterically wading through freezing water, instinctively searching for a drowned child would’ve put a stop to the charade immediately. Now the missing girl’s dad is dead and the parents are going to jail for murder. I get that some people just watch a movie for entertainment: a cool way to fry your brain for an hour and a half. But then there are others like myself who, if we do choose to be entertained, it better be worth it! With “The Lie”, it was an hour and a half worth of regret. Oh, and shout out to Nicholas Lea, aka Alex Krychek from X-Files making an appearance!

This show is pretty good, I’m halfway through series 3. The characters are likeable, albeit a bit one dimensional at times. There isn’t a true star of the show, as Lydia and Ruby share the limelight. I was interested in learning more about Ruby, who seemed to open up to Gabriel from the beginning. But she seems fairly insecure and stubborn in her relationship with Gabriel. And they also seem so distant, awkward and strange together. The chemistry between Gabriel and Aisha is spot on. Yet Ruby becomes insecure and jealous when she learns of Gabriel and Aisha’s past. The supporting characters do a good job of not getting in the way, which keeps the show charming. I do feel that a couple more supporting characters are needed to keep the show fresh. Looking forward to concluding series 3 and awaiting series 4.

This show has a lot of problems. Not just because it’s using “Boomerang” as the title, but because there is a disconnect from episode to episode. What exactly is this show supposed to be? Everyone is a main character and its distracting. I’m giving season 2 a chance but it’s worse than the first one. Everyone is just doing whatever, living their life, but that’s it. No jobs (maybe off camera they work?) just partying. The show needs a revamp, maybe steal a writer or two from Insecure. The potential is there, but the execution is an awful mess.
