(Spoiler Alert) It was honestly the best movie I’ve seen in a very, very long time. It was more than just an action packed, comedic, and heart throbbing movie. It was just so REAL. The NYC it portrayed wasn’t just a stereotypical city, with its large buildings and pretty lights. The movie managed to portray the heart of the city. The community (e.g. diversity, attitude, culture) and the reality of the train systems were a few examples. But I want to focus on the characters who were able to make me put myself in their shoes. Most Spider-Man movies will show struggle with their power and themselves, but none of them did it in the way Miles had, who did not understand how to use his powers until the end of the movie. He wasn’t able to make that leap of faith, and that is quite the realistic aspect of having superpowers. Not everybody is going to be able to jump off of buildings and perfect their powers after a single day. And Peter Parker, the parallel version, shows us that even a superhero can mess up and have low points. He showed us how human spider man can be, as he was afraid of having kids and ended up messing up his relationship with MJ. Lastly, Kingpin (I think this is how his name is spelled) was also so humanly destructive, focused on bringing his family back and not caring whether he destroyed the city in the process.
I cannot even cover an ounce of the movie, how amazingly descriptive it was (both art and plot) and the realness of it (e.g. the uncle, the daddy issues, the lack of romance in the end). I definitely recommend it to anybody, not just children or comic book lovers, but anybody who’s a fan of a good, refreshing movie.
