Sad to say for us, that today was Andrew Marr's last show. I have found his programme to be on point; topical; with rigorous and robust questioning; extremely informative. Shrewd and aware, with the ability to cut through political rhetoric and get to the heart of the issues at hand, Andrew Marr has obviously enjoyed the cut and thrust of political challenge and debate. Sad to see him go but wish him all the best in his retiral.
So watched Andrew Marr's show again today 17/05/20.
As usual, robust questioning, calling politicians to account especially in relation to their management of the COVID 19 situation. Well, if management is an accurate term to be used in relation to this. A
Exposing that the Government has re-organised the policy group on Covid 19 to a smaller core group - of only men! Really? Surely this cannot be true in this day and age and relative to the fact that some of the best successes in really managing this COVID situation internationally, are down to female leaders?
So what does this expose? Blatant misogyny at the heart of Government?
My only criticism of this morning's show is giving Michael Gove so much talking time...giving unsubstantiated assurances; spouting disingenuous party line rhetoric; and talking as if he knows what happens in schools - when it was so obvious that he doesn't.
But then again, maybe not a criticism - a pat on the back Andrew. Because what Michael Gove did was expose himself as not knowing enough about the logistics of how schools work. How teachers teach. How Headteachers lead and manage their schools. And worst of all obviously not consulting with, or listening to, the people who actually know.
Emotionally intelligent leadership? Nowhere to be seen!
So thank you Andrew for the rigorous questioning which led to this being exposed.
Great show this morning....informative, interesting, measured, balanced and re-assuring. Lots to learn from the statistics, strategies and outcomes globally - for now and in the future. Germany especially was prepared and I suspect it was not down to luck.
Important that media generally continue to get the right balance and do not inadvertantly or otherwise, raise expectations of the lockdown easing. This cannot happen until the conditions are right.
