As most of the best korean movies, this movie too used the language of symbolism. The season were symbolic to phrases of life and associated emotions. The movie depicted monks who are supposed to have most clarity in life. Later when the little monk ends up committing crime depicted that clarity has nothing to do with sins or evil. After coming out of jail, the little monk realises that controlled mind is more important than clarity, which he learns through the yoga/kungfu postures his master left for him. The more the movie is read the more symbolism are expressed... its like the hidden meaning that needs to be puzzled out.
