It was a blast to see Edgar Wright take on a style and tone that is far beyond what I became adjusted to with the Cornetto Trilogy, Scott Pilgrim, and Spaced. Last Night in Soho leaves practically all of the "Wright-isms" behind for something fresh and consistent, still full of flash, energy, and incredible editing. He's always been a master at blending genres, comedy typically being the predominant ingredient in a mix, but this time he trades the trademark laughs and keeps thriller in the forefront, with a little scooping of coming-of-age. And while the story may not be anything revolutionary, the way it's executed makes it an absolute joy to watch.
