The Astronaut is one of those movies that sounds far more interesting than it actually is. Despite the title, it has almost nothing to do with being an astronaut. The story takes place after the main character returns to Earth, and thatโs where the problems begin.
For a film thatโs supposed to take place in a high-tech safe house, it looks shockingly low-budget. The CGI is rough, the sets feel cheap, and the whole thing has the polish of a made-for-TV movie. Even the supposed โsuspenseโ moments never really land. You could easily have this on in the background while doing chores and not miss a single important detail...itโs that uneventful.
The ending is easily the worst part, completely changing the tone of the movie in a way that feels random and undeserved. Itโs less shocking and more frustrating, as if the filmmakers didnโt know how to wrap things up.
The only halfway decent scene is when the swarm attacks the family. Itโs brief, but at least it feels like something is happening.
Overall, The Astronaut is dull, disjointed, and disappointing. There are plenty of sci-fi horror films out there that do this kind of story better. This oneโs just not worth your time.
