Fantastic movie. I don't blame ISIS or the folks that con women. I think as a Hindu we don't teach our kids the basics of our religion. We do rituals that were done for thousands of years without understanding or explaining the significance of each. That may have been okay until 30 years ago, but today, we got to do better. Our kids need to understand better the fundamentals such as we believe in 1 God, who has many many manifestations. We can picture our God depending on the context. The peaceful Saraswati on education, to the Nataraja that dances over the evil, ... ...why we have the mythological tales.
We should take responsibility for not giving our kids a sound education on our religion.
They need to be equipped to answer the questions asked in the movie. They need to understand that Abrahamical religions like islam and Christianity expect their folks to be believers. Dharmic religions do not have believers. They have seekers. When the Hindu girls express their curiosity they are exercising their seeking traditions. We need to be proud of it. Even in the Bhagwat Geeta, Arjuna is asking questions.
In Islam or Christianity before the reformation, if you asked questions or did not conform, you were in grave trouble. The movie shows that.
In Islam or Christianity you are judged based on you following the religious rules however cruel you are. In dharmic traditions you are judged based on your actions not rules. Even Krishna on earth was not free from the consequences of His actions.
