A taut, gripping and shocking true-life police drama from the makers of the excellent THE WIRE. Sadly, the whole series is very nearly sunk by the appalling, completely over-the-top, eye-rollingly unconvincingly 'high-voltage' and comically overwrought performance (if one can call it that) by lead actor Jon Bernthal. Much blame for that OTT critical lead characterisation should be levelled at the director for utterly and completely failing to 'dial it back' about 80% to a level of acceptable realism. Shame really, as everybody else was great, the events engrossing and the factual background too relevant to overlook, and that made Bernthal 'stick out' as so misplaced - a not uncommon flaw with American made tele-drama where things are too often laid on with a heavy trowel.

Absolutely unwatchable trash! Not just for the incomprehensible narrative (which as best I could determine there wasn't even a vague semblence of one), but a total shambles on every cinematic level. All filmed (seemingly on a handy-cam judging by the look) in near total darkness. Dialogue - for what it is - is mumbled, muffled, garble. It is extremely rare that I switch off any film before it ends as I believe in giving all movies a fair shot, but ZERO'S AND ONES didn't deserve any more than 40 mins of my precious time I'm afraid. About as accomplished as the same auteurs' much earlier DRILLER KILLER... and that about sums it up. Just awful!

One of the best crime series ever. Light years ahead of the American rubbish of a similar genre. Superb work by David Hayman - a cop I'd like to call "my kind of cop". Excellent support cast. I did wish the later series' were as long as the earlier ones (early were well over 3 hour two-parters, while latter were 90 minute two-parters and a bit too rushed). Rank this up there with Brit classic "UNFORGOTTEN" and the French series "THE BUREAU" in compelling, detailed procedural drama.
