Joaquin Phoenix was not the right pick for this. Imagine if a globally launched, big budget movie was released from a French Producer/Director about Abraham Lincoln or JFK, and the lead character playing the former President had a thick French accent, and his entire family and every other character in the film had British accents. I couldn’t get over the lack of Frenchness in this movie. It was hugely distracting for me. Not a single word of french spoken, and zero French actors. I would rather a french cast with subtitles. But maybe that’s just me. Additionally, the script was trash. A very unguided choppy plot line. Lack of clarity in the goals of this movie, and poor character development. I can’t believe the same guy made Gladiator, one of my all time favorite movies. Save your Money.
