Terrible, Terrible movie. Really disappointed given the trailer. The movie doesn't touch or explore any of the themes associated with a civil war, instead it follows four stereotypically shallow characters who are photographers. You could almost get away with that if it was done well, but it's not. The action scenes are largely forced and I can't help but feel have been put in to give material for the trailer to get people watching on the basis of it being action packed. Which it's not. Tons of potential in the idea given what's going on in the world today, but all that is absolutely wasted and the end product is limp in action and amateur in writing. Avoid.

I'm shocked I have never heard of this before, ended up randomly popping up on Amazon. I don't often watch horrors anymore because I think I am desensitised to the gore, violence and "boo" moments. 1408 is more a psychological thriller but at times feels like a horror too. It manages to create a suffocating atmosphere of hopelessness and despair, constantly keeping the viewer guessing as to what's real and what isn't. Cusack was absolutely brilliant in the lead role and Samuel L Jackson was a premium supporting actor. Great film, well worth the watch.

I rarely leave reviews but having just seen the credits roll I feel the need to. If you are not black or have never lived in a minority neighbourhood and witnessed racial profiling first hand then the whole movie might seem a bit silly, why not just call the police? For everyone else the answer to that question is obvious. I imagine more so in the US than anywhere else in the world. Was a really good watch, a hard to achieve mix of Superbad along with some poignant social commentary. There were so many key moments that represented so much more than what was going on at the surface, from the BLM signs, the neighbourhood watch signs, the reading of the apology letter. Brilliantly cast and acted. By no means a master piece but a formidable achievement to mix the genre with the topic, keep a run time of under 2 hours and produce something as polished and meaningful as they did. Definitely recommend.

The plot is basically ridiculous, there are so many holes and unexplained elements that the story line itself has zero logic and is indefensible. IF you can put that aside, and it's a big if, the the movie is entertaining, shot well, and well acted and suspenseful. It had everything but the story, if you can forgive that then it's worth a spin, otherwise look elsewhere.
