Dark, depressing and very violent but worth a watch if only to get an idea of what was going on with the Mormon wars in Utah at that time. I had no idea about these events (upon which the film is loosely based). Some great acting and production too. You can almost feel the cold, frozen landscapes.

Top notch drama which I have only just discovered. Complicated plot set in a grimy early 19th century London but outstanding performances all round and Tom Hardy is mesmerising as the revenge driven and slightly unhinged James Delaney.

Uncompromising look at colonial violence and brutality, both racial and sexual. It's not an easy watch, and pretty intense. But the performances are first class and draw you in. And don't be taken in by the amazing scenery and views. The emotional landscape is dark and quite harrowing.
