This movie was 80% Great, 20% WTH? For that reason, I give it 4 stars.
Without saying too much, I'll just say- the way it ended, this movie needs a Part 2.
Needs one... (Yes, I said that twice)
Was it thought-provoking? Yes.
It makes you wonder how weak have we perhaps gotten as a society, due to our dependency on our phones and networks for everything, including navigation and even driving.
Did it have tension and build up? Yes.
Ships running aground, planes crashing, animals acting weird, roads jammed, no one can move, random dead bodies, folks screaming for help in foreign languages, America under attack by an unseen enemy.
All the elements of a catastrophe are there. So are the questions:
Are their extraterrestrial aliens doing it?
Is it a foreign enemy?
Is this being caused by EMP weapons?
Are there energy weapons being used?
Is it hackers?
Is it an internal coup?
All of the above?
None of the above?
Were the questions answered? I'll let you decide...
The film reminded me of Bird Box in its feel and execution, except for in Bird box, there was an enemy you can't look at, thus the blind folds.
Leave the World Behind blindfolds you itself, in the sense that throughout the movie, the real enemy remains unclear- so you're left to your own thoughts as to what the reasons are for why the world seems to be falling apart, if that’s really the case, and if it is- who the enemy is- and how can we overcome it.
