Definitely a frightening and at times unsettling horror movie that gets under your skin. The jump scares are very effective and random by they don't feel forced. The acting is top notch all around especially the lead actress who deserves an Emmy for her performance.
The sound design and music also deserves recognition as it's haunting and beautiful. The pop songs are really good as well. The brutality and gore is very "real"feeling and not as over the top as some horror but still able to induce wincing. The story and themes were also very in depth and the pacing was excellent. The only negative was some of the ending cgi was pretty bad, looking like some Syfy channel low budget monstrosity. That and the entity doesn't get explained any more than it did in the first film.
Overall this film blows the original out of the water. It's bigger, better, scarier, and a must watch for horror fans. I had a huge smile on my face the entire time. Despite some flaws it really exceeded expectations. It's a great horror movie and has become one of my fav. Highly recommend
