I put off watching the US version because while I absolutely adore the UK, I’m getting impatient waiting for the new season. Honestly, I had a very “Fanny” reaction to finding out there was a US version (and seeing the trailer). “Awful! They can’t even act. The lighting is terrible; like an American sitcom. And the humor, I’m sure it’ll be that garish tripe so many networks *think* is the only humor we “coarse Americans” find funny. Ugh! Never. No, thank you.” Um. So… I kind of love it…? At least for what it is. Comparing it to the British version, well, I still prefer the British version. But this show, on its own is actually pretty delightful. The characters are growing on me. I miss Kitty… The whole British cast, really. But Ghosts (US) is unto itself, charming, witty, and yes, funny. After I got past the shock of difference, I really started enjoying it. Though it has just occurred to me that I haven’t seen the headless greaser (?) since the first couple episodes maybe? Hm. 🤔

So far, I love it. I’ve mostly seen Adrian Scarborough in smaller, supporting roles so it’s nice to see him as the leading man for a change. He really is a brilliant actor. Sonita Henry is equally stellar in her role. They make a fantastic team. I’ve watched a ton of murder mystery shows (especially during the pandemic!) and the entire core cast is brilliant. No one’s left me cringing thus far at any rate. The writing is beautifully done; dialogue feels natural, and no one’s over-acting. Even the minor characters are well written and well played. (Catherine Mackin clearly knows what she’s doing too.) Visually, practically every scene is artistically lit and framed. It’s a very “dark” show color wise, high contrast, which is fitting for a drama but even so, the use of color is nicely done. Oh, and the score! Chef’s kiss. Beautiful. The Chelsea Detective really has a crew of incredibly talented people working on it. I rarely get so absorbed in anything this modern, to be honest. Lighter, period shows are a little more my speed normally. I’m only a few episodes in, so my opinions might shift as I get further in but so far, I’m enjoying the show immensely.
