Growing up my family didn't listen to a whole lot of Elvis but it's impossible not to know who he is and be familiar with his work if you've ever turned on the TV in your life. Through countless movie soundtracks and TV references, I had a basic understanding of who Elvis was and what he'd done. I'd even go as far to say that I enjoyed a lot of his music. But I really didn't know a whole lot about him (Since seeing the film I did a lot of fact checking to see what was made accurate and what was exclude). I first saw the trailer for this movie and thought 3 things. 1. Austin Butler is smokin hot. 2. Tom Hanks is in it so it's gonna be decent at least. And 3. This production looks actually pretty good. So I decided to watch it, went by myself to the theater and everything. For starters, I'd like to applaud Austin Butler's performance. Initially I was attracted to this film for his looks but he truly embodied the role of Elvis so perfectly that at one point I forgot who I was actually watching and that it wasn't really Elvis. I found the talents of Austin Butler and Tom Hanks to be spectacular and found that I knew more Elvis songs than I realized. Is it a perfect film? No, of course not. Is it entirely truthful? No, but I've never found a biopic that really was. My expectations going in were generally that I anticipated there to be a lot of glossing over and sugar coating things, and while that did happen some, it was more truthful than I expected. For that, I truly do recommend this movie to anyone who's curious.
