What's the opposition of manipulative? For someone who admits to seeking approval from a young age, Jill surrenderingly recounts her story so honestly to the point where the listener is allowed to question her actions, as she did herself throughout her past. I admire her frank retelling, how she searched deeply to create meaning and grow positively out of a spiritually abusive upbringing. Her memoir makes sense of what seemed confusing to observers of the show and answered many questions. She admirably takes a less than an accusatory stance against some of the action of others, allowing the reader to draw their own overall conclusions. Respectful, thoughtful, and mature, she makes valid points that can be universally applied to enhance others' introspection efforts and own spiritual journey.
