I read this book when I was a teenager. I think it was the short paragraph about the two types of Pity that has remained with me through out the times when I I was confused between empathy and pity . Beware of pity is a book that lives with you through out your life . Not the story but the first and last page The last page compliments the first quote . At my age (82) I think this generation may not have the time to read Stefan Zweig’s Beware of Pity But I wish lovers of literature would read The first quote . It gives a very meaningful perspective on life and living Indira Gandhi used this quote in one of her books . Please read if you can Read if you must
