I love this show! No, it doesn't have a lot of well-known actors in it but I think that's what kind of makes it for me. I was happy to see some athletic natural-looking women, instead of the "overly augmented" phony-looking women we see in so many TV programs and movies.
I lived on the North Shore for a year and a half and it's fun to see places that I used to frequent show up in the storyline.
Yes, I wish they would get the Captain's grief resolved and move out of that part of the story. I think that has gone on too long now. The story could use a little less focus on the Kona Big Wave beer. All of their "off duty time" seems to be about drinking beer.
I like seeing the locals and the local hangouts and hearing the local slang. I think the rescue scenes have good underwater filming. The tiger shark episode is very believable. When I lived on North Shore there was a local that surfed the same area every morning for years. One morning he was attacked on his surfboard by a 13 ft tiger shark and nearly lost both feet, almost totally severed at the ankles.
If this show has to go the way of so many other TV programs in the direction of the same sex couples or transgender narrative to stay afloat then I am done. You almost can't find a program to watch on TV that doesn't shove that in your face at every turn.
I don't mind the multicultural relationships. Living in Hawaii that was very common. I know the Hawaiians right now are struggling financially, especially after the tragedy in Maui last year. Many are having to leave the islands just to survive. I hope this program survives to bring an economic boost to the North Shore, but also an awareness of life in Hawaii.
Please lighten up the storyline a little bit, not everything has to be tension, stress, and sadness. The storyline can be used for heroic feats, camaraderie, and neighborly acts of kindness. Hawaii is my second home and I return as frequently as possible for visits. I want to see it represented well.
