Like other reviewers, I played elite when it first came out; for me, the version for the Apple II/e and IIc came out in 1984. It is part of my early childhood where imagination was key to enjoying a game.
Elite(1983), Elite Dangerous, and all the versions in between do not hold your hand...give you hints and tell you everything is ok. If you do not like games with this philosophy, move on.
I've played this game in most of its incarnations over the last 35+ years, booked 10's thousands of hours in these games, and waited patiently until David Braben returned to his first creation. In my view, it is the penultimate sandbox game, and it does not disappoint.
This game is not for everyone. If you like open-ended games where you can craft your own story and love space and astronomy, you can't go wrong with this game.
If you are an FPS player or a player who has no imagination and needs your handheld, look elsewhere because Elite Dangerous will not be your cup of tea.
