It is an enjoyable film and has all the ingredients for a tense, taut thriller and although it takes time to get to the build, preferring to set the characters first the last act is almost abrupt with questions still left to answer.

The focus on family, protecting one other, believing in yourself when you feel the doubt is a theme that runs concurrently through Mulan. It's an enjoyable movie, lacking real gut and emotion in parts where it should have delivered lessens the impact of it becoming a great movie, but watchable it is if for the grace and poise of the lead actress who has such screen presence, admirable it is.
