It's relatively slow as far as zombie movies go. That's not necessarily a bad thing as just the survival aspect without the acute danger of zombies being present can still be interesting. It ends up falling flat in two ways. 1) the choices made by the protagonist are asinine, even the long term ones that he has time to think about. 2) The film doesn't bother to make the little things realistic and doesn't bother to stay consistent. For example, in one scene the characters can accidentally make a slight noise and get swarmed by zombies. In another they can fire a machine gun on full auto and then slowly walk away with no zombies coming to investigate. Or particularly egregiously, in one scene two characters are hiding in a little metal storage locker with a bunch of zombies outside; they zombies get shot and the locker is peppered with bullets. Dozens of bullet holes appear in the locker door from bottom to top exactly where their bodies are but they're just ok, as if the bullets entered the locker and disappeared into thin air. There is a lot of stuff like that throughout which really breaks immersion.

Just to be clear I did give up on this about 40 minutes in. It consisted of the same 4 scenes playing in the same order in the same 4 locations for the entire time I watched. Fast forwarding through the rest of the movie it looks like that formula doesn't change. This move is tagged horror/sci Fi and the description makes it sound like a natural disaster movie. It is actually a very very slow drama that is apparently about mental illness. I hated it but I guess I can't really give it 1 star if I never finished it, so 2?

I was quite engaged for the first half but it's an m night shymalan movie so I was warrily waiting for it to get bad and, sure enough, halfway through it turns into a different movie that is pretty bad. It doesn't help that this entire film seems to have been made just to help m night's daughter's real life struggling attempt to be a pop star. She wants to be a pop star but it wasn't going too well so m. night made a movie where he make his viewers listen to many of her songs in their entirety and even pauses the movie in the third act so that he can sit his real life daughter down at a piano and film her playing another one of her songs in its entirety for no reason. The movie was almost good for the first half, in spite of m. night, but then quickly tips over the edge into dumb and bad.

I really liked the concept of this movie as well as the first 25 minutes or so. It really drags though. What felt like the first hour and a half is just the same few scenes repeated over and over. It's done that way for a narrative reason, but that doesn't mean it works or is engaging. The movie also doesn't trust itself or the audience enough. It does a perfectly fine job showing us the themes and politics that it's exploring, but then 3 or 4 times the movie grinds to a halt so that characters can practically break the 4th wall and give a speech directly to the camera about the social commentary that the movie was already doing a perfectly fine job communicating. So after dragging its feet for 90% of the runtime things finally come to a head and everything is resolved in about 2 minutes. Finally, this isn't a horror movie, it's revenge fantasy with a couple horror elements mixed in, which was disappointing at the time as I went in expecting and wanting a horror film. There's some good tension, it takes way too long to get to the climax, then the climax is super super rushed and the whole thing left me feeling very unsatisfied.

The entire premise of the film is based on machine guns with silencers making almost no noise. That's a dumb trope that can be forgiven if used sparingly in a larger narrative, but here, it's the basis of the entire movie. The whole film is just a special ops unit using machine guns, that are magically silent, to take out groups of enemies one by one. So the writing is lazy. Aside from that, and this is a personal preference thing, most of the comedy comes from brutalizing, torturing and humiliatingly killing nameless enemy grunts. I've never enjoyed that sort of humor, but some people certainly do and that's fine. It just means that both the action and the humor didn't work for me, and there's not really anything left after that.

Slow, meandering and pointless. Avoid this movie; it is just a waste of time. This is a "murder mystery" in just the absolute loosest sense of that term. There are no twists, no surprises and most of the movie focuses on several plot lines that are completely irrelevant. Maybe they just needed to pad the runtime, because the main storyline definitely did not have enough content for a film. Seriously, you spend the entire movie waiting for something interesting to happen, and then it ends, and you realize that, yes, you really did just spend 2 hours watching something boring and pointless.

This was probably a good premise for a movie. If it was, the entire thing was ruined by carless, inconsistent, lazy writing. I know this will be a criticism lobbed at literally every single movie from now on, but this felt like it was written by A.I. The monsters were 4 different horror movies monster tropes just depending on what particular scene it was. They are vicious mindless mauling animals in one scene They are extremely slow moving, smart, calculating, sadistic, shape shifting, intelligent infiltrators in one scene They are a weird pack of aliens that form into a big rolling teeth wheel that chases people down just like in the b movie "critters" from the 80s. Spoilers The boys spend 15 years visiting the neighbors farm, but then the neighbors are going to have a bunch of fun shooting the boys feet off at the drop of a hat? These creatures, that are whatever the plot wants them to be at any given moment, spend 15 years trying to scratch through a house door, while ignoring the enormous glass windows? And then out nowhere they suddenly get smart and break into every single house all at once, except by tunneling in and again ignoring the giant glass windows even though they've been trying to beat down the doors 2 ft away for the last 15 years? I could rant forever. This movie feels like A.I. took a bunch of tropes, mashed together a script that made zero sense and then a bunch of people who didn't care made it into a movie.
