The movie is fine by itself, but going from the book? There were so many things that they changed, they added unnecessary points and took away key aspects. One example was when Special Circumstances come to the smoke; in the book Tally is inside of the chaos, she fights alongside the Smokies and gets taken prisoner, when she runs from the specials she’s cheered on by the Smokies (showing that she is truly one of them and rejects the pretty system). The movie completely ignores that and changes the “Smoke getting captured scene”.
This was one of those times where I wish people left the book alone. The movie is fine if you’ve never read the book, but if you have like me I bet you were sitting just wondering why they removed things, why they added things and just why they messed with this beautifully complex ugly world.
The best positive I have about the movie is the casting. Doctor Cable was brilliantly executed in my opinion.
