Will be as spoiler free as I can manage. I may accidentally spoil something, read at your own risk. No opinions are based on the actions, opinions, or anything else other than the product of the film itself. Hopefully this helps.
I watched on Sunday night, and the showing of this movie was near empty. I counted eight other people at the time of the lights dimming and five by the end of this nearly two and a half hour piece. I almost walked out around the ten minute mark, but I figured that since I had already paid for the ticket I would stick it through in hopes the whole movie was not as ridiculous. I wish I had walked out with the other gentleman who had the same idea.
The CGI was laughable, dialogue was clunky, directing overall definitely left something to be desired, none of the jokes landed, a lot of filler sequences, they relied way too heavily on nostalgia bait gimmicks, it was very predictable, riddled with cliched troupes, attempts at humor became downright annoying after a while, and the soundtrack was poorly integrated.
I thoroughly enjoyed maybe forty to fifty seconds of the movie, all of which can be seen in the trailers.
I'm a diehard DC fan, and I was very excited for this movie. I understand that may have set my expectations higher than they might be more other movies, but honestly believe that this movie was very poorly made. The cast of very talented actors was made to look like a group of overexcited film students given what was likely the result of an overall lack of inspired direction.
The balance between genres felt lukewarm, and left me wondering when the movie was going to pick a direction it was going to go.
The pop culture references may excite film trivia nerds such as myself, but are hardly anything to write home about.
I have seen very many movies I would rate poorly for being underwhelming, but this is a rare case where the overwhelmingly bad and left me more angry that I sat through it than having paid for the overpriced ticket.
