Turning Red is a quirky coming of age story. Its story and humor are definitely suited for teenagers and young adults. As an adult, I found the story and humor to be cringe-worthy. Although it is applauded to represent Asian cultures, it is the same Disney existential self-expressionist message as in many, if not all, Disney movies (especially apparent in Luca, Frozen, The Little Mermaid, Zootopia). In other words, the movie disparages parental authority by depicting an overreaching mother and a spineless father as preventing their daughter from becoming her true self. In short, if you have seen one Disney movie, you have already seen Turning Red.
