So much promise! What a shame that director didn’t allow us to invest in the characters, flipping from one scene to the next and expecting the atmosphere to carry the story. Some of the acting was terrible.. Kidman was not believable at all and as much as I was excited to see Bjork as a witch, the randomness with which she (and other witches throughout the film) appeared, denied her character of any weight whatsoever. Yes the themes touched on are as pertinent today as ever but that can be said for any mythical tale, can’t it? Only a couple of times in the film did any characters engage in a ‘normal’ dialogue, the rest was over dramatised and therefore exhausting or frustrating. I wish I could have my evening back. Waste of time.
