Don't overthink it. Just enjoy the movie and appreciate these veteran actors who are gone but not forgotten.

Donald Sutherland and Robert Deniro turn in great performances as men on opposite sides of "the animal" ---one working to contain it, and one looking to unleash it. Other than that it's a nice tribute to firemen and what a toll the job can have on their personal lives. You're quickly reminded that this film isn't that far removed from the eighties, as the cheese abounds. But still an entertaining movie.
